#1 Navy Yard: From the late 19th century through World War II, the riverside blocks south of the US Capitol were home to the industrial Washington Navy Yard. Today, it’s an area that has been reborn as a haven for sports fans, nature lovers, and foodies alike — making it one of the best destinations for condo living, too. Here, The Washington Nationals attract a passionate Major League Baseball fan base, and their ballpark features jaw-dropping views of the US Capitol dome from many of its more than 40,000 seats. Adjacent to Nationals Park, the open-air Bullpen hosts bands, food trucks, and beer sellers pre- and post-game. Audi Field, home to Major League Soccer’s DC United, can also be found nearby.

Elsewhere in Navy Yard, ample riverfront parks and green spaces take advantage of the area’s natural beauty. The Yards Park encompasses a series of mod outdoor rooms, a dramatic bridge and water features for all to enjoy. This park is an ideal place for recreation, special events, and festivals throughout the year, including a free concert series on summer Friday nights.

In recent years, the dining scene has blossomed along with the rest of the ‘hood, with hot spots ranging from Bluejacket for house-made beer and The Salt Line for locally-sourced seafood, to District Winery for waterfront views paired with vino and upmarket Osteria Morini, which focuses on Northern Italian specialties in rustic-modern surrounds.

#2 Logan Circle: Logan Circle gets its name from a traffic roundabout on its southern end, where turn-of-the-century townhouses mingle with the city’s hottest developments. In other words? In Logan Circle you’ve got the makings of a memorable urban adventure everywhere you turn. The neighborhood’s main business drag is 14th Street NW, a playground for the young and stylish thanks to dozens of restaurants, indie and national-brand shops, and a happening bar scene.

#3 NoMa / H Street Corridor: Once known as Swampoodle, a shantytown neglected by the City, NoMa now stands for “North of Massachusetts Avenue”, and is a rapidly developing neighborhood that’s quickly becoming a go-to choice for young professionals seeking newly-built condos. Home to Union Station and the H Street Corridor, it’s located just four blocks north of the US Capitol, congressional, and governmental offices. NPR, CNN, and Sirius XM are all located here, as is the historic Gallaudet University and the Government Printing Office.

The opening of the New York Avenue Metro station in 2004 is what first sparked the improvement of this section of the city. In 2007-2008, private developers invested over $1 billion to begin the development of office, residential, hotel, and retail space in its 35-block area over a 10-year period. It didn’t take long for tree-lined streets, luxury apartments, restaurants, and shops replaced abandoned warehouses, industrial parks, and decaying houses. Within NoMa lies the popular H Street NE, a hip, happening street with a number of top bars and restaurants.

Today, NoMa offers convenient, pet-friendly apartment living just steps from the Capitol, Union Station and notable companies. With delicious restaurants, DC’s largest Harris Teeter, and more than 50 free community events each year, NoMa brings friends, co-workers, and neighbors together in every season.

#4 West End: West End is a neighborhood in northwest Washington, DC bounded by K Street to the south, Rock Creek Park to the west and north, and New Hampshire Avenue/21st Street to the east. West End is named after its location in the westernmost part of the original Pierre LÍEnfant plan for the city, before the annexation of Georgetown took place.

Home to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Residences, the Park Hyatt and Fairmont hotels, numerous luxury condominiums, and several of the city’s finest restaurants, this neighborhood represents the ultimate blend of high-end living and urban access. Because of its proximity to Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, and Dupont Circle, it’s little surprise that this enclave is currently a hotbed of development, with new luxury condominiums being built and/or planned throughout the year.

#5 Adams Morgan: Despite its longtime reputation, Adams Morgan is much more than a neighborhood with a crowded nightlife scene. Along the eclectic neighborhood’s headlining 18th Street, you’ll find historic row houses, independently owned shops, and boutique condos you don’t want to miss.

Some of the neighborhood’s main draws that make it a destination for developers everywhere? The LINE, a DC-inspired hotel housed inside a 110-year old church that offers a variety of dining experiences, as well as a rooftop bar and community center. Not to mention the plethora restaurants found here — from everyday cafes to beloved outposts and quirky eateries.

Last but not least, residents can taken advantage of Admo’s animated nightlife at local spots like Songbyrd or Bossa, before ending the night with one of Jack Rose Dining Saloon’s seemingly endless whiskey selection or a visit to The Diner, open 24-hours Thursday through Saturday.

#6 Petworth: Cozy, comfortable, cool – Petworth is an up-and-coming DC neighborhood that’s fun for the whole family. Its mix of residential and urban allure also means that it’s one of the best places to find DC condos today. One of Petworth’s best-known claims to fame is President Lincoln’s Cottage, but while the rest of the neighborhood might not be familiar to visitors yet, residents recognize its unique flair and offerings. From neighborhood gatherings to unique pop-up restaurants and independent shops, Petworth has something special for everyone.

Home cooks will want to visit The Petworth Community Market, a weekly farmers’ market held on Saturdays from May through November. The market features produce, prepared food, and local vendors such as Sweet Crimes, Panorama Bakery, and Harrar Coffee & Roastery. The market also hosts performances by musicians and artists, as well as chefs who put together cooking demonstrations.

Exploring the neighborhood’s restaurant scene is also a must. A hot tip? Head to Timber Pizza Co. for dinner, a haven for pizza set in a cool, industrial-chic space, and then amble down the street to woman-owned Dos Mamis for creative cocktails brought to you by two veterans of the DC dining scene.
