Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend

Monday, January 17th is the day we honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Fittingly, it has become a national day of community service in the United States, with plenty of opportunities to volunteer, give back, and pay your respects available throughout the DC area. Here are some of the stops on our list:

  • The Martin Luther King Jr Memorial: This memorial is free and open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week along the edge of the Tidal Basin.
  • Washington National Cathedral: This is the church where King, who had a doctorate in theology, preached his last Sunday sermon before his assassination in 1968.
  • MLK Holiday DC Parade and Festival: This annual parade begins at noon on January 17th at 2700 MLK Avenue SE and continues to Anacostia Park for the free festival.

Sample & Support At Restaurant Week

A can’t-miss wintertime attraction, DC Restaurant Week is officially returning to the scene from January 17th-23rd. After last year’s event focused largely on take-out options due to Covid restrictions, 2022 (knock on wood) is shaping up to be a true return to form. Beyond giving us an excuse to sample more delicious food and drink for less, restaurant week is also a chance for our community to show support for the hospitality industry, a group that’s still recovering from the chaos and shutdowns Covid brought. Participants can take advantage of specially priced meals at some of the finest restaurants in the region, including to-go options, inventive cocktails, and wine pairings. Dig in to the details and learn more about participating restaurants here!
