Lifestyle

In DC, Capitol Hill isn’t just where laws get passed — it’s where local diners descend in droves to sample the vibrant culinary scene at their fingertips. And spoiler alert: the ever-growing lineup of options on the menu here doesn’t disappoint, especially when it comes to brunch. So, from Southern staples to delectable diners (and everything in between), here are the tastiest, booziest brunch spots in Capitol Hill, DC. Cheers!

Barrel

At this Southern mainstay, chef Walfer Hernandez creates waffles topped with bourbon whipped cream, apple compote, and basil candy. Two other popular orders are the fried chicken biscuits — available with honey butter or fontal cheese and chipotle mayo — and the shrimp and grits jazzed up with Calabrian sausage and piquillo peppers. And last but not least: wash down brunch bites with clarified milk punch cocktails or bloody marys with a serrano pepper kick. You can browse the full menu and make a reservation here.

Lavagna

Seeking a cozy yet affordable brunch that doesn’t skimp on flavor? You’ve come to the right place, because this Capitol Hill haunt checks every box on the list. The mascarpone pancakes and chicken + waffles are must-try meals, although when dining within the four walls of this Italian mainstay, you really can’t go wrong…especially since the bottomless mimosa option is only $15 with the purchase of an entree.

Belga Cafe

Belga Cafe is a restaurant concept by Belgium native and award-winning Chef Bart Vandaele. A vibrant atmosphere modeled after Brussel’s casual cafes, Belga Cafe is the original Belgian restaurant in Washington, DC. Opened in 2004, the neighborhood locale on Capitol Hill is known for its authentic cuisine, extensive craft beers, Genevers, and of course: brunch. And while the Nutella crepes are everything we hoped for, the entire menu serves up an excuse to go all in on traditional Belgium cuisine like never before.

Ambar

There’s a reason restaurateur Ivan Iricanin is known as the All You Can Eat King of Washington. His Balkan concept, Ambar, offers an AYCE food menu for both brunch and dinner, with plenty of bottomless drink options to go around.
