Embrace The Season With These Spirited Fall Cocktails
Lifestyle
With the temperatures dropping and the leaves changing hues, don’t you think it’s time to switch up your cocktail routine too?
From pumpkin slushies to bourbon-based spritzes (and so much more), we’re serving up the most festive drinks to help you channel the fall sprit in style — before the last leaf falls. Cheers!
#1 Pommeau at Capitol Cider House: Craving some apple juice with an alcoholic twist? Petworth’s Capitol Cider House is pouring a District-exclusive pommeau that’s sure to hit the spot. The cidery compares the fall release to an apple version of port wine, made by blending raw, unfermented cider with apple brandy. Flavors include “Amaro,” featuring caramel and candied orange peel, and “Gold Rush,” a bourbon barrel-aged pommeau with notes of honey and butterscotch. Both one- and three-ounce servings are available.
#2 Pumpkin Frozen at Electric Cool-Aid: Who said slushies weren’t a fall drink? This just in: The autumn special at the all-outdoor bar is a “Pumpkin Frozen” comprised of pumpkin spice and whiskey. If the orange gourd isn’t your speed, we recommend sampling the “Bee’s Freeze” with Barr Hill gin (distilled with honey), lemon, and more honey — with the option to have it served inside of a honey bear.

#3 Cinnamon Cider Slushy at Quincy Hall: Set in Ballston, this massive beer hall features more than a dozen beers and ciders on tap, including seasonal pumpkin varieties from Masthead Brewing and Blake’s Hard Cider Co. But for those who don’t mind keeping frozen drinks flowing all year long (and clearly we don’t), Quincy also serves a cold concoction of Downeast Cider, Murlarkey cinnamon whiskey, and simple syrup.
#4 Costa Chica at Manifest: Nestled above Manifest, DC’s matte-black bar Out of Office (OOO) gets its inspiration from top travel destinations to come up with cocktails. The “Costa Chica,” for instance, is made with spirit-forward bourbon and lemon juice, a festive twist served fresh for fall.
#5 PB+J at Residents Cafe & Bar: Yes, Residents keeps its iconic “Mexican Coffee” cold brew cocktail on the menu all year long, but for a more seasonal take, try the seasonal “PB+J” next time you stop in. This nostalgic drink features cognac, concord grape juice, and dark rum — with a dusting of peanut butter, of course, that’s sure to transport you right back to the playground…with your lunchbox in tow.
