DC’s Favorite Farms For Fall

Lifestyle

Nothing says fall quite like vibrant foliage, rolling hills, and a good old-fashioned corn maze. The only catch? Figuring out how can you experience the magic of the season to its fullest without leaving the city entirely behind.

From kid-friendly festivals to charming pumpkin patches, we’ve rounded up our favorite farm destinations where you can celebrate fall in style.

#1 Gaver Farm: At this year’s Fall Fun Fest, you can let the kids run free in the corn maze, feed the animals, and play on giant slides — to name just a few.

#2 Shlagel Farms: This farm south of DC is perfect for a weekend pumpkin patch trip. And this just in: They have a baby chick-holding station, so you can get your fill of cuteness, too.

#3 Montpelier Farms: At Montpelier, we recommend taking advantage of the pumpkin patch, hayrides, and corn mazes during the day and warm up by the bonfire when night rolls around at this Maryland family farm park.

#4 Leesburg Pumpkin Village: Let’s be honest: The name says it all. Here, visitors can take a pony ride, get their face painted, and snag a free cup of cider at Leesburg Animal Park. Oh — and did we mention the pumpkins?

#5 Butler’s Orchard: Pick your own pumpkin at this classic fall festival, a favorite for anyone familiar with the seasonal scene in DC. Included with your ticket is access to the pumpkin patch, hayrides, a twisted corn maze, a playground, and tons of games.

#5 Clark’s Elioak Farm: This farm is truly magical for young kids, featuring a fairy garden, an enchanted forest, story time, and more. If you’re looking to get close to cute farm animals, there’s also a petting zoo. And from mid September through Halloween, you can even pick a child-sized pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, as well as larger pumpkins and gourds from the farmer’s market.

#6 Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch: Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch is open daily from late September through Halloween. Weekday admission is free and includes a large selection of pumpkins and mums, fall shopping, and a petting zoo. On Fridays, guests can also enjoy hayrides to the pumpkin patch, multiple play areas, and (for a fee) a 20-acre corn maze.

#7 Larriland Farm: There’s no better place to savor the season’s show-stopping fall display than Larriland Farm in Woodbine, Maryland. The farm goes all out for Halloween, brimming with spooky decorations like ghosts and goblins that give festive frights. The fields, meanwhile, are laden with crisp, succulent vegetables, and the orchards are bent down with apples. It is, after all, the last harvest to reap before the cold winter sets in. And when you’re done exploring, why not wash down the day’s adventures with a tall glass of freshly squeezed sweet apple cider?
