Places To Eat & Drink in Friendship Heights

#1 Sushiko: The menu at this Friendship Heights Japanese spot — crammed with toddlers, seniors, and everyone in between — is so expansive that it’s hard to know where to start. Take your cue from the place’s name and zero in on Piter Tjan’s nigiri, prettily plated crudos, and dressed-up maki. A yellowtail-and-avocado roll gets a kick from ponzu salsa, while the standard eel-and-cucumber is transformed with radish and balsamic reduction. There are deals to be discovered, too, including a sake-centric happy hour and both quick and four-course lunch specials.

#2 Lia’s: Located right near the Friendship Heights metro, Lia’s is a quaint Italian bistro that’s perfect for a nightcap at the bar or a lunch on the outside patio. Lia’s has crafted a Mediterranean-style menu with classic pasta dishes and traditional appetizers alike, serving up something for everyone to enjoy!

#3 Le Chat Noir: The French creperie gives an air of elegance and flair to the surrounding area. Le Chat Noir is styled as an Art Noveau bistrot and offers an extensive list of galettes (buckwheat crepes), daily specials, and a variety of delicious desserts. Popular for special occasions, the classic French cuisine serves main dishes like the steak frites or the Basque chicken, and they have a daily special for both lunch and dinner that includes duck confit. The vibrant wallpaper and romantic seating make it the perfect destination for an intimate date night or a lively celebration.

Things To Do in Friendship Heights

#1 Shop ‘Til You Drop: Friendship Heights is a storied shopping zone known for its high-end shops like Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s, but it’s also a haven for cheap-chic hunters thanks to a T.J. Maxx, a basement-level Nordstrom Rack, and a World Market.

#2 Tour The National Cathedral: Just a short trip away, the National Cathedral is a sight to behold. There are 112 gargoyles (whimsical, sometimes-eerie rainspouts carved in stone) to discover, including one that looks like a corrupt lawyer and another resembling Darth Vader. Guided and self-guided tours of the characters spotlight both the artistry and history of the grand church, not to mention the sprawling grounds that encompass it.

#3 Explore Rock Creek Park: Washington, DC’s Rock Creek Park – which is made up of 1,754 acres of National Park Service land from Northwest DC into Maryland – is a popular retreat for the city’s outdoor enthusiasts. With lush greenery, miles of trails and picnic areas, a nature center, golf course, horse stables, amphitheater and even a planetarium, unsurprisingly, Rock Creek Park is teeming with locals and visitors alike all year long.
