Where To Watch The World Cup In DC

Lifestyle

Beyond the mounting holiday cheer and Black Friday deals, the next week (actually month, for that matter) brings an event to enjoy that only comes around every 4 years: The World Cup. Having just kicked off in Qatar last weekend, the tournament calls for all-day happy hours, food specials, sunrise watch parties, and booze flowing for 22 hours a day. And the best part? In honor of the occasion, DC is giving bars and restaurants the rare chance to stay open around the clock to capitalize on customers looking for a place to watch matches taking place all the way across the globe. Can’t wait to tune in?

Keep reading for a rundown of the city’s best destinations for soccer rituals, long hours, and festive drinks to celebrate the worldwide tournament in style.

#1 Duke’s Grocery: Duke’s Grocery celebrates the World Cup with a beer passport, bracket tournament offering a $500 first place prize, and stein-holding competitions (to name just a few). The Foggy Bottom outpost will show all 8AM, 11AM, and 2PM matches on a 10-foot projector. During earlier games, come in for a proper English breakfast and drink discounts.

#2 Queen Vic: Fittingly, USA, England, and Wales fans are encouraged to descend on Queen Vic and root for their respective home team this time around. There’s a $5 entry fee for the epic USA vs. England face-off at noon on Black Friday (November 25); in the meantime, you can follow their Facebook page for updated hours, deals, and events.

#3 Biergarten Haus: DC’s iconic indoor/outdoor beer haven, Biergarten Haus serves up a festive setting to watch World Cup matches from 8AM onward. Come for the 25 TVs with stadium-quality sound, and stay for the new Lodge Bar and five heated cabins. Early risers can enjoy breakfast, Bloody Marys, and mimosas during early matches, as well as Irish coffees, glühwein, and hot cider. Teleworkers are encouraged to bring their laptops and use Biergarten’s Wi-Fi, and dogs are welcome during weekday matches.

#4 Astro Beer Hall: The official bar for the local American Outlaws Chapter, Astro is offering festive specials on two domestic favorites to fuel fans: $7 Tito’s cocktails and $5 Miller Lite pints. The beer is also served by the pitcher ($15) and in buckets of cans ($20).

#5 Boundary Stone: This popular Bloomingdale outpost hosts World Cup watch parties starting at 1PM daily (and opening earlier on days Team USA plays). During all weekday games, fans can treat themselves to $5 local drafts, $6 wines, and $6 draft Old Fashioneds or Manhattans, plus $7 hot honey chicken or fried fish sandwiches and $1.50 oysters.

#6 Teddy & The Bully Bar: Who says it can’t always be 5 o’clock in DC? For the World Cup, Teddy & The Bully Bar is setting a spirited tone by making the happiest hour last all day long — or at least on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11AM-7 PM. All five of Teddy’s barrel-infused cocktails are $9, as are quesadillas and nachos. Games will be shown in both bar and lounges on multiple monitors, and gifts will be won by guests. At its sibling bar, Lincoln, meanwhile, cocktails are $8 and beers and wines are as cheap as $6. Bar bites starting at noon include $8 mac and cheese and a mini chicken pot pie for $11.
