Lifestyle

With the new year fast approaching, there’s a lot of (typical) talk about resolutions focused on fitness and health — but what if your goals for 2024 are slightly more…appetizing? In DC, good food is always on the menu, and we’re here to help you savor every bite of Winter Restaurant Week, slated to take over the city from January 15th to 21st. Keep reading to take advantage of specially priced meals, including to-go options and cocktail pairings from over 150 participating eateries! Here are some of our can’t-miss favorites:

#1 L’Ardente: The latest hospitality venture from the award-winning team behind Unconventional Diner reflects the glorious contrasts of Italy itself: haute yet simple; glam yet rustic; indulgent yet restrained. Above all, it’s a destination DC deserves right now, a Mediterranean balm in the heart of the capital.

#2 Bresca: Bresca is a contemporary Parisian bistro showcasing techniques rooted in France but influenced by regionality, carefully sourcing only the best ingredients from both the mid-Atlantic & abroad. Building off the vibrant food scene of Paris’s Neo-bistro movement, Bresca displays an inspiring take on French cuisine in a relaxing environment.

#3 Dauphine’s: From Long Shot Hospitality, the team behind Washington, DC’s beloved restaurant, The Salt Line, Dauphine’s creates a transportive experience inspired by the playful city of New Orleans. Led by critically acclaimed Chef Kristen Essig in tandem with Chef/Partner Kyle Bailey, Dauphine’s utilizes Mid-Atlantic ingredients to prepare classic New Orleans fare while also creating original dishes inspired by the iconic city.

#4 District Winery: District Winery is a boutique winery set in the heart of The Yards, a bustling community along the Anacostia River. Co-founders Brian Leventhal and John Stires previously worked together in New York City and for several years made their own wine recreationally in New Jersey with a group of co-workers. After realizing how much fun winemaking is, Brian and John quit their jobs to open Brooklyn Winery in the vibrant and creative Williamsburg neighborhood. Now, the duo has brought their winery concept to a different but no less exciting city: Washington, DC.

#5 Gypsy Kitchen: Walk through the door at Gypsy Kitchen, on Washington, DC’s bustling 14th Street, and you’ll know you’re about to experience something special: An eclectic bohemian escape & culinary adventure. Whether it’s a romantic dinner for two, drinks with friends on the rooftop under the stars, or a low-key weeknight bite, every visit to Gypsy Kitchen feels like a celebration — of the romance of travel, culinary curiosity, and joyful connections made over a terrific meal.

#6 Iron Gate: Iron Gate, located near Dupont Circle, stands as one of the district’s oldest continuously operating restaurants and is split between a sumptuous dining room, a wisteria covered patio, and a handsomely enclosed carriageway that houses the bar. Together, Chef Anthony Chittum — a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore — and his team have revitalized the space with a menu that takes inspiration from the cuisines of Greece, Sicily, Sardinia, and Southern Italy, interpreting those traditions and techniques using the finest products and seasonal ingredients of the Mid-Atlantic.

#7 Duke’s Grocery: The result of a couple of guys who love good food and cold drinks, Duke’s Grocery is a neighborhood pub and dinner spot located in the Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom areas of Washington, DC, with a Duke’s Counter sister location in Woodley Park / National Zoo.
