Where To Get The Best Mocktails In DC

Lifestyle

New year, new drinks? Maybe you’re simply looking to kick off a healthier 2024 with Dry January, or hoping to change up your drinking routine for the long haul. Either way — we’re here for it…and so is DC.

The best part? Going booze-free in our nation’s capital doesn’t mean you have to spend the whole month (or year) avoiding bars. In fact, countless watering holes across the DMV are serving up specialty zero-proof options for every type of sober-curious patron who still enjoys that coveted cocktail taste. Keep reading to discover where you can find the best mocktails in DC today – so you can make sticking to your most refreshing resolution easier than ever before!

#1 Bresca: It’s hard to stop into Bresca, or upstairs tasting room JÔNT, without ordering one of their gorgeous cocktails. The good news? There are some worthy substitutes, including the Citronnade à la Menthe (a cardamom-and-lemon cordial that’s a take on traditional mint lemonade from southern France); the Mango Collins (zero-proof gin, mango, lemon, and ginger beer); and a riff on an old fashioned (with American malt, orgeat syrup, and aromatic bitters).

#2 Doyle: This stylish bar in the Dupont Circle Hotel spotlights non-alcoholic cocktails like the Free Fall Fizz (made with seedlip garden, chamomile syrup, and zero proof sparkling wine) and the Dupont Temple, in which lemonade, cherry syrup, and cranberry take center stage.

#3 Namako: Michael Schlow’s new sushi spot, in the space that once housed Tico, stirs up matcha coladas, spiced grapefruit spritzes, and a mixture of pineapple, cucumber, yuzu, Thai basil, and tonic.

#4 Planta: This airy, plant-based restaurant, which also has branches in Miami and Toronto, is home to an eclectic roster of Seedlip drinks. First, there’s the Singapore Sbagliato, featuring a blend of roots divino apéritif rosso, sparkling grapefruit, and bitter orange, not to be outdone by the classic-tasting Cucumber Mule and the cleverly named Not-A-Rita.

#5 Yasmine: This Beirut street food hotspot in Union Market is where you’ll find the Jallab ($6), a grape and date beverage with golden raisins and almonds. For the same price, there’s also the equally appealing Limonata filled with mint, lime, and an apricot soda.

#6 Lapis: At Lapis, non-alcoholic cocktails are mixed to reflect the same ingredients found in traditional dishes on their menu. The Rumi ($8) merges key elements in Afghan cooking like yogurt, mint, and cucumber with salt and soda to make for a unique result. Then there’s the Anar ($8), a pomegranate concoction made with rose water, soda, and pomegranate, which utilizes one of Afghanistan’s most prolific fruits to deliver a booze-free beverage that doesn’t skimp on flavor.

#7 O-Ku Sushi DC: When dining at this sleek Japanese spot near Union Market, try the herb-packed Jaded Rose ($9), featuring zero proof alt gin, rosemary, yuzu, honey syrup, and tonic, or the Midnight Lemonade, made with blueberry, cucumber, lavender, and lemon.
