Where To Eat & Drink Your Way Through The Holiday Season

Lifestyle

It’s the most wonderful time of the year — for delicious food & drink, that is! All over DC, restaurants and bars are popping up and getting into the holiday spirit like never before, decking the halls with mood-lifting tinsel, twinkling lights, and kitschy knickknacks to spare. Not to mention the seasonal, themed cocktails being poured along with delectable treats that will leave you wanting more. Keep reading for our favorite places to indulge your appetite for all things festive this holiday season!

Mount Hi-Lawn Aprés Ski Winter Pop-Up

The closest thing to an alpine lodge in DC features a 2,500-square foot heated tent on the roof, lounge furniture and couches, string lights, antler chandeliers, faux fur rugs, and vintage fireplaces and trinkets — to name just a few. Beyond that, there are 20 fire pits scattered on the lawn, hot cocktails, and classic winter snacks like hot pretzels and German hot dogs. Wednesday is game night. Live music Thursdays. DJs during the day on Saturday and Sundays. What more could you want?!

A Gingerbread Village at The Fairmont in Georgetown

The Fairmont’s adorable Christmas village took only 80 pounds of chocolate, 32 pounds of gingerbread, and 60 hours of work to complete. It’s in the lobby, so grab a hot chocolate or cocktail to sip while checking it out.

A Holiday Market at Bayou Bakery

Filled with southern classic confections in green and red packaging, the pop-up holiday market at Bayou Bakery is a must-see stop on your holiday excursion.

Cantina Bambina’s Snow Globe at the Wharf

Shake things up in Cantina Bambina’s giant, Christmas-themed snow globe. There’s a full holiday cocktail list with warm drinks like peanut butter whiskey-spike hot chocolate, mulled wine, and more, not to mention twists on classics like cold-brew laced eggnog.

Festivus at The Passenger

With one of the most original holiday set-ups honoring the iconic comedy show, Festivus At The Passenger doesn’t disappoint. Air grievances to a room full of ears by ringing a bell, or record them on the bathroom wall. Engage in one-handed wrestling contests, take in plenty of Seinfeld-themed decor, or hang from a pull-up bar for two minutes to win a free shot. The Passenger’s Festivus pop-up bar invites visitors to blow off some steam. Special cocktails ($13 each) pay homage to the Seinfeld episode that introduced Festivus.

Winterfest at Wunder Garten

Thanks to an onsite Christmas tree lot, the sounds of buzzing saws and the scent of fresh pine make for a pretty authentic holiday experience in NoMa. Daily events include ugly sweater contests, Santa pics with pets, holiday movies, holiday trivia, and so much more.

Chai-vy and Cohen-y at Ivy and Coney

Though Hanukkah came early this year, Ivy and Coney’s popular Hanukkah-themed pop-up bar, Chai-vy and Cohen-y, will keep the theme going throughout December. Highlights include shots that taste like sufganiyot; latkes; and the “shotnorah,” a giant menorah that allows eight people to take shots at one time, and blue and white lights woven throughout the space.
