Refreshingly Hot Happy Hours Around DC

Whether you’re back in the office or looking to shake up your summertime routine with a great cocktail, you’ve come to the right place.

From tried-and-true watering holes to fresher favorites, here are some of the happy hours Washingtonians are flocking to this summer for deals and drinks.

#1 Queen’s English: Natural wine gets the spotlight at this critically-acclaimed Columbia Heights restaurant. Just in time for summer, Natty Wine Hour runs daily from 5 PM to 7 PM on Queen’s English’s outdoor covered patio. There’s a constantly-revolving selection of intriguing natural wines for $45 a bottle that you can pair with starters from the Hong Kong-inspired menu like mala shrimp cocktail with charred scallion aioli and guajillo oil.

#2 Red Hen: This just in: Chef Mike Friedman and team are debuting a full happy hour menu for the first time in The Red Hen’s nine-year history. The Aperitivo Hour offers rotating $5 cans from Maryland’s Manor Hill Brewing, $7 wines by the glass, and two $8 cocktails: the Capasso Spritz with Capasso Aperitivo, prosecco, and sparkling water and the Assembly and Soda with Assembly Gin, orange bitters, and sparkling water. Snacks include marinated olives and salami, artichoke crostini with toasted hazelnut romesco sauce, and swirls of whipped ricotta on crostini with black truffle sauce, wildflower honey, and sea salt.

#3 Puro Gusto Cafe: Head to the Italian cafe for a bottomless aperitivo happy hour, weekdays from 4 PM to 6 PM For $17.95, get an endless stream of draft beer, draft cocktails, light snacks like olives, and chips and taralli. The popular deal that debuted in May now runs Monday to Friday through the summer and will return to Monday to Wednesday after Labor Day.

#4 Unconventional Diner: Drink deals (available at the bar) start weekdays at 3:30 PM at this modern Shaw diner. Beers and wines go for $6, highballs are $8, and you can even hop on the Dirty Shirley cocktail trend for a mere $10. And if you’re in the mood for some bites? Try discounted snacks like $7 cornbread muffins with habanero butter, $10 crab fritters, or the famous chicken pot pie poppers.

#5 Hook Hall Safari: The indoor/outdoor Park View venue has taken on a safari theme for summer, complete with tents, greenery, and faux wildlife. Party animals can grab cheap drinks during happy hour, including $5 wines and mixed drinks, $4 house beer, and $20 “mystery buckets.”
