Giving Back with The Rotaract Club | A Fundraiser for Martha’s Table
Lifestyle
It probably goes without saying, but just so you know—we’re pretty passionate about the place we call home. From the iconic sights of Downtown to the idyllic sidewalks of Cleveland Park (and beyond), our city enchants with its scenery, captivates with its attractions, and fascinates with its history. But aside from the exhaustive list of attributes DC is home to, it’s also full of people (and places) that could use a helping hand. At The JST, we love finding new opportunities to give back to the city that’s given us so much. We also love partnering with like-minded organizations that share our investment in altruism, and we know the feeling is mutual. This month, we’re excited to introduce one such organization that’s reimagining philanthropic ventures during a time when just a little extra effort can make a world of difference.
Introducing The Rotaract Club:
A Rotary-sponsored service club, The Rotaract Club of Washington, DC is a group with a mission: to make their community a better place. How? By promoting understanding through a framework of friendship and service. And, more specifically, by identifying worthy causes and organizing events to bolster support, enhance awareness, or raise money. One of our very own JST agents, Kristen Adams, has been a Board Member for two years, which means we have the inside scoop on all the club’s events (including their upcoming September fundraiser), and we’re excited to share that intel with you. After all, when it comes to philanthropic endeavors, more is always merrier!
The Vision:
For the month of September, the club is hosting an event to support local mainstay Martha’s Table, an organization that sponsors children and families. How? By facilitating access to quality education, as well as health, wellness, and family resources. Food insecurity is a stark reality for many families in DC, a crisis that’s only been exacerbated by the pandemic. For children who rely on lunch they normally receive during the school day, for instance, the shift to virtual learning is a life-altering disruption. The Rotaract Club is seeking to counteract some of that uncertainty for families this month by making and donating sandwiches to Martha’s Table, and by selling cocktails to raise money for the cause. The motivation? That one lunch might mean one less day of anxiety over where someone’s next meal is coming from.
The Event:
When: Sunday, September 27th from 11-3 PM
Where: Volunteers are gathering outdoors on The Mall at Constitution Gardens
The Task: Assembling 500 sandwiches that the club will donate to Martha’s Table
Added Twist: Volunteers will also be selling cocktails to raise money for the cause!
***The Jenn Smira Team is a proud sponsor of this event.
