There’s no doubt that 2020 has been a year of uncertainty. Especially, that is, for the restaurants, bars, and recreational destinations that comprise the vibrant DC scene. But even with the fall season upon us, it’s clear that DC isn’t backing down without a fight. Now, more than ever, our local businesses are getting creative to find newand equally as enticingways to serve up unforgettable and festive experiences. From exciting pop-ups to the season’s coziest backdrops, here are some places channeling the fall spirit with innovation and style.

Cozy up to These Quintessential DC Spots:

While falling temperatures may threaten to disrupt our outdoor drinking routines, not to fear: there are some local spots where the scene is always hot.

Top Of the Gate: A popular rooftop bar at The Watergate Hotel, this local haunt blends fireside vibes with iconic views of the city skyline and nearby Arlington. 

Ana at District Winery: Set in the buzzworthy Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, Ana at District Winery will warm you up with housemade wines, riverfront views, and fire pits that combine to deliver the coziest of evenings.

Barcelona Wine Bar: By serving up blankets, heat lamps, and an outdoor fireplace, Barcelona’s fall set-up is the ultimate crowd-pleaser.

Sample the Season’s Best Culinary Pop-Ups:

It wouldn’t be fall in DC without at least a few pop-ups gracing us with their presence. From one-off events to month-long mainstays, here are the local pop-ups we just can’t wait to sample.

Little Stable: Swiss restaurant Stable has officially transitioned its summertime seafood shack into a fondue and schnapps-filled pop-up, just in time for fall. Savor bubbling pots of Swiss cheese and spiced apple cider from the festive outdoor patio. 

Where: Gallery O, 1354 H Street NE

Dates: Thursdays to Saturdays from 5 PM to 10 PM, through at least Thursday, October 22.

Chef Kwame Onwuachi x Ben’s Chili Bowl: The James Beard Award-winning chef will run the show at DC’s beloved half-smoke institution as part of a new takeout promotion by Resy. Onwuachi plans to send out chili half-smoke, geera fries with calypso aioli, and banana pudding pie in to-go boxes.

Dates: Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18

Victura Park at the Reach: Courtesy of The Hilton brothers and chef Erik Bruner-Yang, there’s a new weekend wine garden set outside of the Kennedy Center’s Reach complex. Sample wine, take in Potomac River views, and savor the crisp fall air from a setting that’s hard to beat.

Hours: Fridays from 3 PM to 10 PM, Saturdays noon to 10 PM, and Sundays noon to 8 PM
