Lifestyle
Now that January’s in the rear view mirror, it’s time to turn our collective attention to the most romantic holiday of them all. Keep reading for our exclusive list of the most classic and creative ways to channel cupid not just on February 14th — but the entire week long!
#1 Savor A Romantic Meal
If overindulging on V-Day is wrong, we don’t want to be right. Here’s some dining inspiration to dig into this season:
- Apéro: This dreamy petite French restaurant nestled in a Georgetown row house embraces Champagne and caviar like few other restaurants do.
- Iron Gate: A dining room with a roaring fire is just one of the treats that makes this historic Dupont Circle setting so intimate. Share selections off the family-style menu with wine pairings, or order a la carte dishes like daily focaccia and Mediterranean octopus with sweet potatoes, frisée, sherry vinegar, and black garlic aioli.
- Tabard Inn: This charming spot near Dupont Circle offers a textbook date night. Start with a seat on a comfortable couch and snuggle up with a glass of wine by the homey fireplace, and enjoy live jazz every Sunday and Monday night in their living room-style lobby.
#2 Catch A Show
Celebrate music, love, and poetry this Valentine’s Day weekend at Folger Shakespeare Library. Folger Consort blends medieval music with a bold world-premiere composition by acclaimed composer and Guggenheim Fellow Juri Seo, along with readings from Geoffrey Chaucer’s A Parlement of Foules by DC actor Holly Twyford. For this concert running Friday through Sunday, Seo has created a four-movement work (with movements interspersed among the poetry and period music) that complements A Parlement of Foules, capturing the wit and charm of his avian world through music.
#3 Discover DC’s Famous Murals
Canvases are everywhere you look in the District, which teems with vibrant street art in all quadrants. Spot everything from renditions of silver screen stars Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor to abstract, museum-commissioned works, restaurant-themed facades, and lots more. Don’t miss Lisa Marie Thalhammer’s aptly-named LOVE mural in Shaw and the mural at Ben’s Chili Bowl, which features the Obamas, Prince, and Harriet Tubman, among others.

One made-for-couples-activity in our nation’s capital is renting a pair of ice skates. Luckily, the city hosts an array of ice rinks that each present their own special experience. Whether it’s underneath the stars at The Wharf, on the banks of the Potomac River, or at the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden, each presents a romantic setting and plenty of opportunities for some on-ice fun.
#5 Gather With Your Galentines
On Thursday, this friends’ hangout at Water Bar Lounge has all the ingredients for a great night with your besties: a rom-com movie screening of How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, plus wine, charcuterie, and oysters to share!
