What’s It Really Like Living In Logan Circle?

Lifestyle

A beloved DC destination, Logan Circle encompasses a residential area north of the White House and east of Dupont Circle. Much like its aforementioned neighbor, Logan is centered around its namesake traffic circle, which was laid out in L’Enfant’s original city plan. The neighborhood itself is rich in history, culture, nightlife, shopping, and charm. But despite the undeniable allure and proximity this vibrant enclave offers, you don’t just have to take our word for it.

Wondering what it’s really like living in Logan Circle? Keep reading to find out.

#1 Getting There: From Metros to bus routes, Logan has all your transportation needs covered.

  • Mt Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center (walk west on M Street NW and then north on 13th Street NW)
  • U St/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo (walk south 14th Street NW or 13th Street NW)
  • Bus Stop: Logan Circle & P St (Bus 63 and G2 make stops here)

#2 Green Space: Anyone who has ever driven around DC knows about its infamous traffic circles. But Logan Circle, with its grand Victorian mansions flanking the curves of the street, is the city’s last remaining residential traffic relic. Stroll around it, admiring turrets, towers and architectural flourishes, or pack a picnic to take it all in.

#3 The Lifestyle: Located at the intersection of urban excitement, historic intrigue, and residential routine, Logan Circle is where DC residents live when they want the best of both worlds. Here, a normal day means seamlessly transitioning (by foot) from timeless Victorian rowhomes to bustling nightlife in Shaw or along 14th Street Corridor. For those commuting deeper into DC, Downtown is only a short walk or Metro ride away — as are the many other notable neighborhoods that might occupy your post-work plans.

#4 The Restaurants: Dozens of restaurants, many relative newcomers, make their homes in converted historic buildings. Among the hits: Birch & Barley/ChurchKey, which specializes in unusual beers and hearty comfort chow, and Le Diplomate, a French brasserie with throwback decor (a zinc bar, retro tiled floor) and rich menu. Weekend brunch attracts a young crowd to places like Barcelona, a haven for Spanish tapas, and Bar Pilar, an Ernest Hemingway-themed American spot known for hangover-cure sandwiches.

#5 The Shopping: Try Salt & Sundry for quirky kitchen goods and locally made crafts. Big name retailers include West Elm and Room & Board (the latter is located in a groovy converted vintage car showroom with an awesome roof deck). And for off-beat antiques, legendary Miss Pixie’s Furnishings & Whatnot showcases a rotating selection of art, antique furniture, and retro collectibles.

#6 The Market: Home values have increased for Logan Circle properties as the neighborhood has rebounded, and most row homes have already been rehabilitated. New construction loft condos can be found on the highly coveted 14th Street and P Street corridors.

#7 Coffee Shops: Start your day off on the right foot with these must-try shops for brews and baked goods!

Slipstream: Along with a house espresso from Third Coast Coffee and its Madcap’s Six-One-Six drip coffee, Slipstream sells single-origin coffees that come in carafes accompanied by informative cards. The original in Logan Circle has a patio with prime views of a dynamic corner on 14th Street NW and wall-to-wall windows inside that bathe the space in natural light.

Bluestone Lane: Located in the heart of vibrant Logan Circle on 14th Street, this cafe brings a great Australian coastal design, radiant menu, full cocktail service, and specialty coffee program to DC locals.

Wydown: The brand’s first shop is a labor of love replete with personal touches, from coffee-inspired artwork to the main counter salvaged from the old Hershey’s Chocolate Factory. Be sure to try the drip coffee station and espresso bar that serves a rotation of specialty coffees, as well as the homespun pastries baked on-site.

#8 The Nightlife: No matter where you are in Logan Circle, there’s bound to be a bar nearby. For classic cocktails, relative newcomer Jane Jane is an enduring favorite, while nearby Kingfisher offers more of a classic dive bar scene. Steps away, mainstay Player’s Club is known for its arcade games and rooftop, but for those seeking a slightly quieter scene, the vibes of Crown and Crow are sure to please.
