Things To Do In DC This April

Lifestyle

It’s official: April has arrived, and with it, a festive lineup of happenings is sure to renew your passion for the city we call home.

From al fresco events to immersive storybook experiences, keep reading for the best ways to occupy your time not only this week — but all month long.

#1 Jazz & Blossoms: Jazz & Blossoms will take over Franklin Park for a park jam this Sunday, April 7th. This free outdoor music extravaganza will blend the sounds of Grammy award-winning hip-hop trio Digable Planets along with the eclectic sounds of Daylight DC, Madison McFerrin, JoGo Project, and the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra, creating an atmosphere that resonates with the spirit of spring. Produced by Words, Beats & Life in collaboration with the DowntownDC BID, this event promises an unforgettable fusion of jazz, blossoms, and the lively spirit of spring.

#2 Flowers After Hours: On Thursday, April 11th, coinciding with the bloom of all the incredible trees, flowers, and plants around the city, is the second National Gallery Night of the season. Since this event is all about nature, you’ll be able to create wearable flower art, take images in front of a floral photo wall, and even participate in a blossom-themed scavenger hunt. But that’s not all — there’ll also be live music and the roof terrace will be open to guests!

#3 Festival Of Spring: Nothing says spring quite like wandering through a field of tulips. Now you can do just that at Burnside Farms’s 2024 Festival of Spring! This season, visitors can picnic and lounge outside its 100-year-old dairy barn or pick a beautiful bouquet from more than 150 types of tulips and over 30 types of daffodils. Five flowers are included with each admission ticket, and you can pay $1 per stem for tulips or $1 per 2 daffodils, too. Tickets are limited, so lock in yours today!

#4 Monet In 3D: An immersive experience, this 360º digital art exhibition invites you to step into the world of the French painter Claude Monet, one of the greatest artistic geniuses of the nineteenth century. Get your tickets here.

#5 AdMo Art Walk: Together, in partnership with the Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (BID), The DC Arts Center is proud to present the 2024 ADMO Art Walk (running through April 8th – 30th, 2024) — a free, new way to experience art! Every year, local businesses in Adams Morgan are partnered with local artists in DC, who are invited to display their work all month long in the business’ storefront. The result is a neighborhood-wide public art exhibition where Adams Morgan becomes your own personal art gallery!

This year will bring more artists and participating businesses than ever before, and while you’re free to walk the streets of ADMO to admire the impressive selection of artwork in a self-guided walking tour, members of The DC Arts Center will be offering guided tours on select weekends this month as well!

#6 Emancipation Day Celebrations: DC Emancipation Day refers to the day The DC Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862 was passed, ending slavery in Washington, DC, and freeing 3,100 people.
